My research focuses on asking how Asian Americans and other minority communities are using media in the fight for social justice.  I am committed to approaching this question using ethnographic methodologies that elevate the voices and experiences of the Asian Americans who use, produce, and consume media.  This has resulted in a body of scholarship that helps media studies scholars to better understand the complex strategies and tactics that disempowered communities use in their engagements with media, the different routes that are taken toward developing activist identities, and the relationship between citizenship and media cultures.
